Summary of the House Committee Version of the Bill

SB 185 -- HISTORIC MOTOR VEHICLE LICENSE PLATES

SPONSOR:  Loudon

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Motor
Vehicle and Traffic Regulations by a vote of 9 to 0.

This bill allows any person wishing to register a plate which is
over 25 years of age and is consistent with the year of
manufacture of the motor vehicle to register the plate as a
historic vehicle plate.  The plate must not contain a
configuration of letters or numbers already issued to another
vehicle owner.  The owner of the historic vehicle must keep the
certificate of registration in the vehicle at all times.

FISCAL NOTE:  Cost to Highway Funds of $548 in FY 2002, $653 in
FY 2003, and $653 in FY 2004.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say the bill allows collectors the
ability to use a genuine historic license plate with a historic
vehicle.

Testifying for the bill was Senator Loudon.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
